Moves in to the
Redeployment Pool

Andy Lord, Branch Secretary

Dear Colleagues

HMRC has announced today that some 400 staff are being placed into the redeployment pool from across a number of areas, including Benefits & Credits, Enforcement and Compliance and corporate support areas. They are located in a number of locations around the Department, including Southend.

HMRC had previously been putting staff in the redeployment pool as and when they felt it was appropriate to do so.  However in the last three months they had been holding back on placing staff in the redeployment pool while they were exploring bulk move options.  Consequently what is happening now covers a number of members in one tranche.  In future HMRC have decided there is no benefit to be derived from waiting months before placing staff in the redeployment pool and will go back to doing so as and when the need arises..

While most members would not actually want to be in the redeployment pool; the timing of this announcement is important for the members involved.  This is because they do now have a priority status for HMRC vacancies (on level transfer only) just at the point at which a number of vacancies in Enforcement and Compliance businesses are being advertised in HMRC.

It is worth pointing out that being in the redeployment pool also means other options are also available including priority status for jobs advertised in other government departments.  Members involved should be aware that they will of course also be considered by HMRC for management moves if opportunities for such arise.

Members need to be aware that PCS, through the branch, is there to support them if they have gone into the redeployment pool and have any concerns about this. If you do wish for advice or support please contact me in the PCS Office.
